Destiny House started as a dream in the heart of Roger and Sue Smedley, missionaries from Australia. By the grace of God and with the courage of these pioneers Destiny House Children’s Ministries was born in 2008. From the beginning Destiny House has been in partnership with Grace Community Church in Mtubatuba. In 2011, Roger and Sue returned to Australia and Esther Hurter took over the management of Destiny House. Lawrence & Esther and their children had recently moved to South Africa from Holland, following the call of God on their lives.
Destiny House started off in 2008 with a baby home for 12 abandoned babies. After making use of different rental properties, we were able to build a home on the property of Grace Community Church in 2015, and we gradually grew to become home to 24 children. In 2017 we built a Preschool building, especially designed for our Early Childhood Development Programme, which benefits both the children who live at Destiny House and the children from the local community. Currently we have 46 learners who are learning in our Preschool.
In 2019 we completed the construction of two smaller living units next to the main house. In each house, six children will grow up in a family setting with a housemother. We believe that by modelling what a family looks like, the children are equipped to live a life which will break the cycle of fatherlessness and poverty in their families, and so bring change to the communities of South Africa. All these building projects were supported by many sponsors from all over the world. We are so grateful for support from Australia, the UK, Holland, the USA and Romania as well as support from local businesses.
